Fossil fuels, like oil, coal and gas are running out and becoming increasingly expensive to extract. Both their extraction and processing, and the burning of many of their products, pollutes our environment, damaging our health, and increases atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, affecting our climate.

We need to preserve remaining stocks of fossil fuels for more important uses than (e.g.) turning engines, and develop cheap, efficient ways of harnessing the Earth's renewable energy sources, like the sun, the wind, the tides and gravity.
