Legal aid reinstated for some

Good news. Eleven of the 1,300 UK families trying to ‘prove’ that the MMR jab had led to ‘regressive autism’ in their children have had their legal aid reinstated. In Green Health Watch 25 we reported that their request for further legal aid was turned down just after having obtained convincing medical evidence from a US laboratory. The UK’s Legal Services Commission has agreed to review at least another 100 cases.

Ed.- This is good news for two reasons:

  • It suggests that British justice rose above what appeared to many to be a political decision
  • It suggests that the Legal Services Commission finally accepted that the evidence gained by the families in the US was sufficiently strong for the class action to have a chance of succeeding.

The reason given for the original decision not to grant further legal aid was that there was insufficient medical evidence for the action.
