In response to customer demand, UK train operator GNER now offers
uninterrupted wireless (Wi-Fi) internet connection in every carriage
of every passenger train in its fleet. Virgin Trains will soon
offer Wi-Fi facilities in its first class compartments and station
lounges.
Ed.- Lap-top-bearing passengers will be delighted, but one wonders
whether they, GNER or Virgin have any idea what 'offering customers
the full Wi-Fi experience' really means. Some train operators
offer mobile phone-free compartments for passengers who object
to being fried by the waves emitting from others' phones or having
to listen to others' often inane conversations. If enough of us
write in complaining about the endless, simultaneous key clicks,
beeps and fanfares of fifty lap-tops, perhaps they will introduce
Wi-Fi-free carriages too - but there will be no escape from the
radiation!
