People exposed to pesticides in the home and garden were twice
as likely to develop Parkinson's disease.
The author of the study, Dr. Lorene Nelson,
thought that certain types of pesticide targeted the base ganglia
in the brain, where they damage nerve cells. She also considered
that there were probably other factors, such as genetic susceptibility,
and called for more research.
