Transport 2000's Wise Moves: exploring the relationship between food, transport and carbon dioxide showed that the UK's 'food chain' (cultivation, transportation and sales) has been estimated to account for 22% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, but warned that this was almost certainly a gross underestimate:
  • Official Government figures only included the portions of international food journeys by UK companies which took place on UK roads

  • Food journeys by air and ship were not attributed to any country for the same reason, i.e. occurring in international waters/airspace
