Vitamin
D protected against hip fracture
According to a very large study (72,000 women for 18 years) women
who had consumed on average 500 international units (iu) of vitamin
D3 daily from a combination of food and supplements had developed
a 37% lower risk of hip fracture than women who had consumed less
than an average 160iu a day.
The researchers also concluded that, for older women, vitamin
D3 intake had provided better protection for bones than calcium.
