HRT and diabetes
Research suggested that menopausal women who took oestrogen by mouth, with or without progesterone, ran a higher risk of developing diabetes. The oestrogen appeared to cut the body's ability to use the insulin it produced by nearly a third, resulting in excessive insulin levels.

Other studies have linked excessive insulin levels to cancer, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol levels and obesity.
